Carbon Footprint and Net Zero

Helping you collect, analyse and report on your greenhouse gas emissions to help with your net zero journey.

Why this is important:

Many organisations are required by customers, clients or other stakeholders to determine their impact on the environment and how they are reducing the impact through a greenhouse gas emissions inventory (or “carbon footprint”) and reduction strategy.

Ensuring this is undertaken in a robust and consistent manner that is in line with a recognised standard will gain you credibility and ensure compliance with legal and voluntary reporting standards (such as SBTI, CDP, TCFD, ESOS).

What is net zero and how is it achieved

Net zero is a shorthand for Net Zero Carbon Emissions which is when an organisation has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions to near zero and invested in reduction activities for the remainder

A properly documented and calculated carbon footprint is needed to inform where to concentrate reduction activities. This forms the basis for the Net Zero strategy that identifies a timeline for practical implementation of reduction activities and investments.

How we can help

We have developed a robust approach to the process that reduces timelines, ensures consistency and provides value for money:

Stage 1 – Understand your organisation

We will spend time getting to know you so that we can concentrate on the key emissions in terms of quantity, ability to measure and importance to stakeholders.

Stage 2 – Train your team

Unlike some other consultancies, it is important to us that you understand the process, terminology and calculation approaches. This allows for a better and more efficient flow of information, and we’re happy for you to take on more of the process with our guidance.

Stage 3 – Focus on what is important

It is important that the more important the emissions, the more time is spent on them. Our experience allows us to efficiently produce emission inventories and cost-effective reduction strategies that comply with the required standards without breaking the bank. We may recommend further work, such as energy audits, to complement the process.

Stage 4 – Refine and report

Our process is designed to rapidly produce a draft emissions inventory and reduction pathway. Time can then be profitably spent refining the data, discussing with stakeholders and developing the final report, which we will present in an easy-to-read and accessible manner (backed up by detailed and robust data sources and calculations).

Case Study: University Net Zero Roadmap

Royal College of Music in London

The world-renowned Royal College of Music faces challenges in reducing carbon emissions from its Grade II-listed London site.

Our partners Brite Green asked us to undertake a detailed operational energy audit and produce a comprehensive net-zero roadmap.

The result was a practical and cost-effective approach that aims to reduce operational carbon emissions to zero over a 15 year period.
